Moose are the most popular for the hunter and there are currently over 100000 in the wild. This wasn't always the case with overhunting and the increase in wolves nearly wiping them out in the 1860s. A hunting ban was introduced in 1868 and again in 1920 a 10 year ban was very gradually relaxed until the end of that century.
